Dreaming of Fire

I roam the streets
Collapse on my sheets
Drown in the beats of my Spotify

Scrolling through tweets,
Dodging repeats,
Keeping things neat, as the days drift by

Ever loved someone’s love, but not their soul?
They filled the space, but never made you whole.

A warm sanctuary, with so much care to give
Yet they couldn’t meet you where you truly live

They check the boxes, so it must be…right
They’re gentle and kind, but is that so hard to find?
So the hollow slips in, sitting heavy each night,
A shadow in your ribs you can’t quiet or overwrite

You smile for the crowd, though you’re losing the fight,
Longing to be seen in your chaos and light.
Not just be humoured, your uniqueness put to the side.

So you wander the streets,
Collapse on your sheets,
Dreaming of fire that your soul might ignite.
